The Dole, Lakeside Legacy Foundation in Crystal Lake, Ilinois
Established in 2002, the Lakeside Legacy Foundation, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Crystal Lake, Illinois. The organization was founded to save The Dole, one of the most historic structures in the region, from demolition and development.
The Dole serves many functions for the local community, including as a gathering place for special events and annual celebrations, such as the Annual 4th of July Lakeside Festival. From May through October, the organization hosts the Farmers Market+ at the Dole, which takes place almost every Sunday, rain or shine. The farmers market, which has received Best of the Fox Farmers Market honors on multiple occasions, provides the community with a wide range of activities, from musical performances to children’s games and activities. Farmers Market+ also serves adult beverages and provides space for local food vendors.
The Dole Mansion is also the home of Creative Arts Studio, Inc., art classes serving artists of all ages and skill levels. In addition, several of the mansion’s bedrooms have been converted into studio residences for local artisans and creative arts entrepreneurs. These are only a few of the events and community services at the Dole. More information is available online at thedole.org.
